PICS
Overview
Scientific studies have shown that prolonged intensive care therapy can lead to various long- term consequences that reduce the patient's quality of life and worsen treatment outcomes, known as Post Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS). An essential aspect of managing these patients is the collection of Patient Reported Outcomes Measurements (PROMs), which have become an important tool to improve the outcomes of this population under the value-based health care approach. Unfortunately, this process is still carried out analogically due to the lack of digital health tools to reach and engage with patients when treated in outpatient clinics. Thus, the development and implementation of such a solution is needed.
The CS342 2024 PICS application allows patients recovering from intensive care therapy to better track their recovery and inform their doctors on their health. Patients fill out necessary hospital questionnaire through the application prior to their hospital visit and track their health vitals based on their Apple health data, as well as plan and prepare for their appointments.

Features
Health Dashboard
Users can view their health vitals (step counts, oxygen saturation, and heart rate) from the previous two weeks. When users click on a specific bar or dot in the chart, they can find additional details for users to learn more about their health condition. Thresholds for step counts and oxygen saturation are also shown to facilitate users' understanding of their health vitals.
Appointments
For each appointment listed on the appointments view, users can
- view their appointment time
- use an interactive checklist to make sure they bring required documents to bring in the form of interactive checklists for each of their appointments.
- edit the appointment times in this view.
- find the address and location of their appointment on the map
Corresponding notifications will be sent 1 month, 1 week, 3 days, 1 day, and 30 minutes earlier, as well as at the time of the appointment to remind users of their upcoming appointments.
Medication Upload
Users can also upload a photo of their medication chart for their healthcare providers to access.

Questionnaires
Users can take the 3 main questionnaires required for each appointment directly through the PICS app. This page helps users attempt the questionnaires in a structured manner at specific 5-minute intervals every two weeks, and they can see which ones have been completed for this interval. If the users choose to skip the onboarding questionnaire during the onboarding process, they will also have the option to complete it in the questionnaire tab.
Assessments
To measure various aspects of their cognitive abilities, users can take assessments including the trail-making test, Stroop test, and reaction time test. Results will be displayed as a chart and users can click on a dot to see more details about the selected result. By default, the app will show the user's last test result for each test.
Contacts
Users can easily access the contact information for the medical team and address information, and they can view the location of their care team on Apple Maps.
